Disney 60th Special a Slap In the Face To Real Fans

Well there it is: the “Wonderful” World of Disney: Disneyland 60 exists now, and it is a literal – in no way figurative – slap in the face to every True Fan of Disney. While there was no advertising saying that the show would be an in-depth look at the upcoming Star Wars Land or the new Shanghai Resort, it was pretty obvious that those two things were absolutely promised, and Disney yanked the rug underneath all Real Fans once again. Oh sure, they showed some new concept art and video, but everyone knows that concept art is just pablum for the masses and never translates to anything real or good.

What it all boils down to is this: we already know Star Wars Land is going to be utter crap. That is a fact. First off, there’s no way it can beat Universal Studios Hollywood’s Harry Potter Experience in terms of immersive and deep theming – those complaining that you can see outside the park to office buildings are clearly not paying enough attention to their Butterbeer Potted Cream, which should distract from any small, SMALL, sightline “issues” USH might have until trees grow in in the next few decades to block the view.  We’ve been demanding definitive blueprints and photographs about the new rides going into SWL; until we get them, it only makes sense to speculate that the rides are going to be something like Mystic Manor in Hong Kong and some kind of simulator like Mission: Space. We need to stress that those things are definitely going to happen and that we didn’t just make that up right now.

All of which makes us angry, because while Universal is doing new and innovative things with its rides (yes, Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey is almost exactly like its Osaka and Orlando counterparts, they INNOVATED and added 3-D, which Osaka had first but Universal brought it to the UNITED STATES), Disney is doing the EXACT SAME RIDES as other ones around the world and only putting in new characters and locations and ride vehicles and queues and surrounding atmospheres. No one knows why Disney is going on the cheap here, but it’s clear to all reasonable thinkers that Disney has stream of loose feces on their hands here. One report came in reporting definitively that an Observant Guest at Disneyland overheard two people who might have worked at Disneyland saying that they may or may not be looking forward to SWL, or perhaps another new addition.  That’s all we need to hear to know that, like the Disneyland 60 special, Star Wars Land is already doomed and no one can save it.
